Purple's ninth, a stonking album, but one of change.  Stormbringer is a snapshot of the journey between Burn, and what went before, and Come Taste The Band, and what followed.  Ritchie Blackmore was taking more of a back seat, and after recording and touring Stormbringer he would depart and start the Rainbow concept, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow released early in 1975.

The lineup for Stormbringer was Ritchie Blackmore, David Coverdale, Jon Lord, Ian Paice and Glenn Hughes.  The album feature songs that would long remain in their live act and others less so, not as to say the album was of variable quality, more a variety of styles blending rock, soul and funk in a way that was quite ahead of its time. It was released in December 1974, their second release of the year (after Burn).
